FIVE YEARS IN THE MAKING

In the beginning....was the tower.
Gary's first year or so was generally trial and error.  He intended to paint the Ceiling on panels at home, bring them up to the church and screw them to the roof.  This proved impossible as screw holes inevitably destroyed the paint, gaps were impossible to prevent between the panels and it became an artist's nightmare.  Plan B, screw up the plain plywood panels and paint directly onto the roof as Michaelangelo had done.  A little tower was purchased through donations.  It was on wheels and could be moved about with each section that would be worked on.  Brushes, paints and other materials were bought and the process developed that enabled Gary to tuck himself in the corner of the church and quietly start his painting (to begin with....!)

The little Tower proved too small to contain Gary's growing workshop of materials so he purchased scaffolding that would have to be built to cover one large area at a time.  Panels were presented for people to sponsor and donations for the work steadily came so Gary worked day and night, week after week, the months passing into years so that gradually the Ceiling grew.  Visitors came from all over the world and soon a deadline was given to Gary so that a special Mass of Thanksgiving with the Bishop could be organised and the Completion of the Ceiling Celebrated.
